Chelsea Women's Swedish international Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has signed with OL Lyonnes on a three-year deal.

What happened?

The 29-year-old Swedish international leaves Chelsea after spending the last four years with the club, making 139 appearances and scoring 17 goals.

OL Lyonnes announced the news via a post on their official club website, confirming Rytting Kaneryd's move to the French club.

Why it matters for Chelsea Women

Rytting Kaneryd's departure comes as Chelsea Women are currently 3rd in FA WSL, with 49 points from 22 games, and a recent form of WWWWD, having scored 44 goals and conceded 20 this season.

The Blues signed Rytting Kaneryd from Swedish OBOS Damallsvenskan club BK Häcken back in summer 2022, and she went on to win three Barclays Women’s Super League titles, two Adobe Women’s FA Cups and two Subway Women’s League Cups.

What comes next?

Rytting Kaneryd joins an OL Lyonnes side that won a domestic treble last season and is looking to regain the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy, which they last won in 2021/2022. With Chelsea Women 6 points behind leaders Manchester City W in the title race, Rytting Kaneryd's move to OL Lyonnes marks the end of a successful chapter in her career with the Blues.
