Chelsea Women have bolstered their defence with the signing of 18-year-old full-back Nelly Las on a four-year contract from Leicester City. The versatile defender, who can play on either flank or further forward, arrives as Sonia Bompastor’s side gears up for the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season. Chelsea ended last campaign in third place in the FA WSL with 49 points from 22 games, a recent run of five wins and a draw sealing their final 2025 table position.

What does Las bring to Chelsea Women?

Las is a regular for England at youth level and adds another promising young talent to a squad already brimming with experience. She can slot into multiple defensive roles, offering cover at right-back, left-back, or even in a more advanced position. Her direct style and high work rate make her an ideal fit for Bompastor’s system, while her one-on-one defending stands out both offensively and defensively.

‘I always give 100 per cent,’ Las said. ‘I bring energy and I like going forward to help with goals and assists, but I’m also solid at the back. My one-v-ones are my biggest strength.’

Learning from legends at Chelsea Women

Las grew up idolising Lucy Bronze, and now she’ll train alongside the England and Chelsea legend every day. Bronze, alongside Ellie Carpenter, forms part of a defensive unit packed with over 100 international caps and a cabinet full of trophies. Las sees this as the perfect environment to develop.

‘I can definitely learn from them,’ she explained. ‘They’re both the best right-backs out there, and being able to ask them questions daily is incredible. I’m so excited to watch them up close and grow as a player.’

Las also has the advantage of knowing several Chelsea teammates from her time with the Young Lionesses. Lola Brown, Chloe Sarwie, Lexi Potter, and Katie Cox are among those she’s already familiar with, easing her transition into the squad.

What’s next for Chelsea Women?

With Las now part of the Blues’ plans, Bompastor’s side will look to build on last season’s third-place finish. Chelsea scored 44 goals and conceded 20, finishing six points behind Manchester City in the title race. The new campaign promises fresh competition and high stakes as the club eyes a return to the top of the WSL.

Las’ arrival adds depth and competition to a squad already stacked with talent. Her hunger to learn and improve aligns perfectly with Chelsea’s culture of development and success. Fans can expect her to make an impact quickly, especially given her eagerness to integrate and contribute from day one.
